This past month one of The Training Station's members celebrated a huge milestone! Brandon has officially been training with us for 10 years! Brandon sat down to chat with us about his time at The Training Station:
Why did you initially decide to join The Training Station?
Brandon has had a long time dream of fighting in the UFC. He originally became interested in MMA watching it on TV. When he decided it was time to start training, he found The Training Station and Master Dow's training program. The different mix of classes offered and the training plan Master Dow offered made Brandon feel confident The Training Station could help him achieve his dream of fighting in the UFC.
Brandon did end up fighting several years after training. He won his first four fights to become the #1 ranked amateur 170lb fighter in New England. An immensely successful first fight series for a new fighter.
How have your goals changed over your 10 years with us?
Brandon's goals have remained the same throughout his time at The Training Station. He still has a passion for fighting and in his own words has, "A goal of getting to the big show."
What are your goals now?
Brandon's current goal is to get back in the cage sometime this year to fight. In addition to fighting he is working on getting back into a routine training schedule and practicing discipline outside the studio. Master Dow has worked with Brandon to understand that becoming a fighter is more than just showing up for classes. What you do outside the studio is just as important. Brandon can often be seen posting his meal prep on Facebook and sharing eating tips in the studio.
What is your biggest accomplishment you have achieved with TTSNH?
Despite a wildly successful start to his fighting career, Brandon says his biggest accomplishment to date is the self respect and confidence he has gained. To him that is more valuable then any belt or title he could win.
How has your training in the gym helped you outside of the studio in your everyday life?
We think Brandon answered this question perfectly in his own words. "The Training Station has helped me build a better me with everything from friendships to jobs to personal goals."
What classes do you take?
Sparring, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Gi and No gi class) I also take Christina's kickboxing class and have taken the Kempo/Jiu Jitsu class.
What advice would you give for a new member?
"Drop down and give me 20!" Brandon jokes. In all seriousness he says, "Enjoy the process, show up, have fun, its a great place to train and make friends."
Have you ever sat down to watch your favorite show with a bag of *insert your favorite snack here* only to realize that when the show has ended your snack bag is empty? This happens to many people and can ruin a day of healthy eating or undo your workout in minutes. A common practice recommended by many doctors and nutritionists is called "mindful eating."
Mindful eating is when you purposefully focus on what you are putting in to your body each meal or snack time. Instead of eating dinner in front of the TV, sit at a table or turn the TV off so you can focus on what is in front of you. The more you slow down and let your brain register with your mouth what you are eating, the less unnecessary calories you will consumer. Check out some tips for mindful eating below:

This summer FLEW by! It seems like just yesterday we were shoveling the snow away from our door. With school starting we wanted to highlight our children's martial arts class offerings. We offer an unlimited class system for children at The Training Station. For one monthly rate, your children can take as many classes as they want at The Training Station. We are accepting fall registrations for new and returning students now. We encourage you to have your children signed up by September 1, 2015 so they can have a full martial arts training session.
Our program is broken into age groups:
Tiny Tots: Ages 3-5
The goal of this class is to focus on listening skills along with balance, coordination, and prepare the children to get ready to advance to the Kids Martial Arts program.
Kids Martial Arts: Ages 5.5 - 10
Master Terry Dow is the head instructor for this program. In this class, the children will be learning Kenpo Karate.
Teen Martial Arts: Ages 10.5 to 15
Master Terry Dow is also the head instructor for this program. In addition to Kenpo Karate, Master Dow will be teaching the children, self defense techniques, and sparring drills. If the children wish to compete, there are several local competitions that The Training Station is involved in.
Teenagers and young adults are welcome to participate in our fitness classes as well. We offer kickboxing, TRX, and superfit classes. Christina Dow, the head instructor for fitness classes, can meet with you and your teenager to determine if the fitness classes are right for them.

After moving to New Hampshire, she continued her training for a total of 13 years in Tae Kwon Do. She achieved the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt under Master Bastien. In her pursuit to further her martial arts knowledge, she began studying Kenpo/Jujitsu and Kickboxing, where she achieved a 2nd Degree Black Belt under Terry Dow’s Academy of Martial Arts.
After Christina attended a Kickboxing seminar with Bill “Superfoot” Wallace, she decided to further pursue her interest in kickboxing. She now holds a 2nd Degree Black Belt in the Superfoot Systems. With her training she brought home the Light Weight Title Belt from the 2011 Girl Fight in Rhode Island. She was also on the 2011 WAKO Kickboxing Team in Ireland.

Bill "Superfoot" Wallace will be returning to The Training Station on

About Bill "Superfoot" Wallace:
Bill “Superfoot” Wallace retired as the undefeated Professional Karate Association (PKA) Middleweight Champion after defeating Robert Biggs in a 12-round bout in June 1980. The victory, his 23rd straight, signaled an end to an illustrious fifteen year career in tournament and full contact fighting. Known to the karate world as Superfoot, symbolic of his awesome left leg, which was once clocked in excess of 60 mph, Superfoot left a string of battered and bruised bodies along the martial arts fighting trail. He used his foot as others would use their hands, faking opponents with two or three rapid kicks and following with one solid knockout technique. His power, speed and precision were astounding.
Despite his retirement, Bill Wallace, continues to be one of the martial arts most popular figures. He is the author of three books: Karate: Basic Concepts & Skills, Dynamic Kicking and Stretching, and The Ultimate Kick. He additionally has a series of videos which continue to be very much in demand. All are considered staples for the serious martial artist.
We are excited to announce our first Parents' Night Out! event at The Training Station.

Master Terry Dow
Studying Martial Arts Since: 1983
Master Terry Dow began training in Kenpo Karate at the age of 9 in March of 1983, earning his first Black Belt at the age of 15. As a teenager, Terry began competing and studying any material he could find in books or videos from Bill “Superfoot” Wallace. At the age of 19, Terry met “Superfoot” and after the first seminar knew that he wanted to train directly under the legend.
In the summer of 1994, just after his 21st birthday, Terry kicked off the training by living in LA with Superfoot . Training consisted of 2-hour private lessons every day, focusing on kicking, flexibility, conditioning, and sparring. After years of National level Sport Karate competitions and traveling all over the country, Terry switched over to Kickboxing and earned a spot on the 1999 WAKO Karate Kickboxing Team. Terry competed in the world championships, representing the USA in Carole, Italy in November, 1999 and Ireland in 2011.
Along with his extensive training in the Martial Arts, Terry has also attended Stunt School and appeared in several movies (e.g.The Cutoff, Your Money or Your Life [film short], and Thomas the Train).
Terry opened his own Martial Arts school at the age of 20. Always trying to increase his knowledge and improve his skills, he has also trained under Soke Michael Depasquale Jr., Tony Cecchine, Guru Bernard Langan, and Hanshi Bruce Juchnik, to name just the major influences.
Terry is married to Christina Dow. Together they run The Training Station in downtown Manchester, NH. In his free time, you can find Terry spending time with his new daughter Catalina or playing music with his band.
